2026-05-03 Sunday: Teaching Artist 101

from $20.00

With host Dawry Ruiz (@dars.mp3), Madison Metropolitan School District artist-in-residence!

Workshops are the start, but what does long term collaboration with schools look like? MMSD Artist-In-Residence Dawry Ruiz has the answers: Residencies, Curriculums, and Standards. Regardless of your artistic medium, in this workshop you will learn about how to adapt what you already do for different grades, new residency structures, and join the city’s artist roster so teachers everywhere can book you directly!

Dawry (@dars.mp3) is an interdisciplinary Hip-Hop artist and cultural organizer. Raised in Boston, Dawry was exposed to organizing at an early age, eventually founding an all youth arts festival. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a First Wave Scholar, the only full-tuition scholarship for Hip-Hop and Urban Arts in the country, with a BS in Community and Organizational Development and a minor in Arts and Teaching. In 2022 he was awarded the national Truman Scholarship for being a leader in public service. He has been featured in TEDx, Forbes, and more. Currently Dawry is the Artist-in-Residence for the Madison Metropolitan School District and serves as the Madison Youth Arts Ambassador. He started the @cuethe608 Youth Artist Collective, focused on development through urban arts, creative placemaking, and professional opportunities.
