Getting your art out into the world on the internet can be daunting! Create Your Artist Website is a two-week studio designed for artists who want to build a professional online presence but don’t know where to start (or would rather build it in community than alone with a YouTube tutorial). In this workshop, we’ll walk together through building your site using Squarespace’s 14-day free trial. There is no obligation to purchase a plan during the class. If you decide to publish your site after the trial period, you can choose a plan that fits your needs.
We’ll cover:
- Why artists benefit from having a dedicated website
- Defining the goal of your site (portfolio, shop, commissions, landing page, blog/project site, events, etc.)
- Choosing a template and building a simple, professional site
- Basic SEO and site settings
The first session will include a presentation and live walkthrough to get everyone set up and building. The second session will function as a working studio where participants can return with progress on their site and receive group feedback, troubleshooting support, and help getting their site to a publishable state.
This class is not about coding or becoming a professional web designer. It’s about learning how to build and maintain a simple artist website using in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Participants will leave with a finished (or nearly finished) website and ability to continue updating it independently, whether or not they choose to publish immediately.
Please bring:
- A laptop & charger
- Any digital photos or links to artwork you’d like to include
- An artist bio/statement (if you have one and would like to include it)
No prior web design experience required. Basic computer literacy recommended.
